Welcome to Terri the Tern, our community delivery workhorse!
Hugely versatile and easy to ride, yet capable of carrying up to 100kg, we love the GSD Tern as a model.
This Packster 80 made by Reise and Muller, was funded by a grant from the Energy Saving Trust – won by Manchester City Council and operated in partnership with Manchester Bikes.
Currently used for our NHS work in Wythenshawe.
A front loading box bike, the Urban Arrow is our sleekest machine on the road – currently used for a variety of commercial and community deliveries.
Troy was the first bike or trike we owned (rather than loaned) and we bought him third-hand in summer 2020, at the very start of our journey as an organisation, so he means a lot to us.
He’s never let us down and for £500 he’s the best money we ever spent! He is especially great for those awkward shaped objects. Kids love him too!
Our organisation was founded by riders and we’re proud that we now have a growing community – all passionate about the vision of Chorlton Bike Deliveries.
As an organisation, we model an alternative to car and van deliveries. Our riders are role models with their ‘better-by-bike’ approach and each one os us cares about making a positive difference in the local community.
As a rider you’ll get to interact with local residents and representatives of the businesses and organisations we work with.
Many of our riders are volunteers who choose to donate their time to support our cause.
Others are paid riders who undertake specific commercial deliveries.
‘Commercial’ rides are paid at the national living wage and our commitment to that is enshrined in our values.
Some riders do both paid and volunteer work. And as a cooperative we encourage and enable riders to get involved in other parts of what we do like projects or events!
Riders are required to join induction sessions and training before they can ride for us.
Riders are responsible for keeping our bikes and trikes safe and following our health and safety and other protocols.
We also encourage riders to undertake Bikeability level 3 training and are monitoring best practices around training in the cargo bike sector.
Some riders began with us with little experience, and we helped them become confident and proficient delivering on Manchester’s roads.
CBD Rider
I started volunteering with CBD at the end of 2020 - it was great to meet people in the community in the otherwise dark days of lockdown. CBD was paying a living wage for commercial rides so I took on more of these and when they partnered with the NHS to collect samples from doctors surgeries I picked up a regular shift which I’ve continued to this day. It’s flexible enough that I can fit it around freelance work and it's a lovely group to be involved with. Friendly and community focused whilst revolutionising how we navigate the urban environment in the 21st century.
CBD Rider
I like riding for CBD as I feel that I’m saving the world one mile at a time, plus I get to ride some cool bikes!

I was looking for work that I could do while the kids are at school and I love cycling so this was perfect! Whilst I've been out on the various cargo bikes people stop and ask what I am doing and are really interested in the concept. Hopefully this is the beginning of the change we need to happen.
