Members, Riders and Volunteers Turn Out in Full Force for Official HQ Opening
Crowds gathered at CBD’s newly refurbished hub, this Earth Day
Hundreds of people gathered in and outside the new Chorlton Bike Deliveries HQ last Saturday to celebrate our third birthday and to officially open our doors. The occasion aptly fell on World Earth Day – a global demonstration of support for environmental protection.
The forecourt buzzed with people from all parts of the community, with cargobike rides and smoothie-bike peddling keeping both children and adults entertained throughout the afternoon.
The new premises has undergone a huge transformation since the keys were handed over, with hundreds of hours of volunteer time helping to turn the space into a now attractive and professional hub to operate both it’s commercial and community rides out of.
Emma Hope, Chorlton Bike Deliveries Director, said; “I think what we’ve been able to do with this place is a good microcosm of CBD in general. Since the organisation was formed in early 2020 as a response to the pandemic – to help those that were vulnerable or shielding – we’ve grown into a successful not-for-profit enterprise with over 50 members and hundreds of people as part of our wider network.
“We’ve got no doubt that being so visible in the heart of the community will bring more people come through our doors to find out about what we do and hopefully help to normalise zero emissions transport.
“All of this has only been possible because of all our amazing volunteers, and we want to thank everyone for their involvement – and ask people to continue to spread the message, to get more people involved.”
Councillor Eve Holt, who attended the event, said on social media; “It was a joy to join today’s opening of CBD’s sparkling new premises in Chorlton. It’s a story of hope and community and is supporting a greener, fairer, and more prosperous Chorlton.”
Councillor Mathew Benham, who is also a trained rider, said on Twitter; “Amazing progress in such a short space of time – well done to all involved!”
Chorlton Bike Deliveries is currently looking for more people to get involved with the organisation, to offer their support in a variety of different ways. The organisation is heavily reliant on the involvement of a small pool of volunteers, which we must expand in order to support our operations and continue to grow. We would encourage anyone that is interested or intrigued to get in touch by emailing hello@chorltonbikedeliveries.co.uk. Any level of time or expertise is welcome – no matter how big or small.
